He also mentioned that James Fisher also made some costly mistakes during these acquisitions. As he says Air Partner desperately need to try and buy earnings stability away from the plane chartering which business can fall away overnight as has been seen in the past. The question as eluded to in the iii article is what costly mistakes will Air Partner make?"This vision may excite investors, and acquisitions may increase profit, helping trigger targets in chief executive Mark Briffa's substantial bonus and incentive schemes. The long-term picture is clouded though. The possibility of new competition from online brokers makes me wonder whether the company is being driven to diversify by the prospect of lower profitability in broking. The acquisition of Baines Simmons, which cost more than Air Partner made in profit in the year to January 2016, could be the first of many. It remains to be seen how judicious the company is when buying companies, and whether the resulting combination adds up to more than the sum of its parts"

John Lee in the FT commented on AIR in the FT over the weekend. Likened AIR to James Fisher with regards to the company growing via acquisition and saw a positive future.

Yes but this model makes brokers like Air Partners Private Jet model and their old way of booking jets obsolete! And at the very least it will still undercut the margins at Air Partners Private Jet business with these new entries into the market

Nice find. It could be disruptive but a positive spin is that it could also be a boost for what they do. It suggests that more and more frequent flyers are attracted to a more bespoke service with less time spent hanging around airports with the hoi pollio spending money , getting tired and worn out etc ....

With the private plane division accounting for about a third of the Air Partner group then this could be quite disruptive

Air Partner expands New York office -

Air Partner expands New York office as it strengthens its US offering Air Partner, the global aviation services group, is growing its New York office to support its continued expansion in the US market, with particular emphasis on New York City and the surrounding area.

The Group believes that there is strong demand in the area for its product offering – particularly its JetCard product - as well as its exceptional client service. This new office, located at 140 Broadway in Lower Manhattan, strengthens its existing US network which includes Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C.

Air Partner provides private air travel solutions, specialist travel management, emergency planning, aircraft remarketing and aviation safety consultancy. The company’s air charter divisions include Private Jets, Commercial Jets, and Freight. The Private Jets division offers both on-demand charter services and a flexible JetCard membership, while the Commercial Jets division arranges air charter flights for groups of 20 or more passengers. Air Partner Freight specializes in arranging the transport of air cargo of any size, worldwide.

Commenting on the expansion, Mark Briffa, CEO of Air Partner, said: “The US has long been an important market for Air Partner, and one which continues to be an area of strategic focus. We have been an established business there for 19 years now, but there are still opportunities that we can capitalize on. North America is the biggest private jet market in the world and we are committed to taking more of this share. For the third consecutive year, independent aviation consultant Conklin & de Decker's found that our JetCard continues to surpass all our major US competitors in terms of both cost and flexibility, so we have a solid foundation on which to grow our customer base. The expansion of our New York office is a really exciting development for us, and I can’t wait to see how our American journey progresses.”

Iasike, true the quote you got wasn't so bad but it seems that the free float is too small for the market makers to keep the spread sensible. Anyway I am content with the way things are going ang AIR is a candidate for a little top up when the HYD cash makes its appearance from the recent steal-over, sorry that should read take-over. :-(

Dozey3, although spread looks wide, it isn't as much when you actually come to buy or sell.
currently Mkt price 425.25 Bid 430.25 offer 454.75

I would have been able to buy at 448 and sell at 440

Don't quite understand why the current mkt price shows at 425.25 ??

Current quoted spread 420.5-454. Current real spread appears to be 430-448.

Been trading pretty much sideways in a wide channel for past 12-18 months or so. A break above 450p would be bullish. Hopefully interim results at end of Sept can provide the momentum, if not before.

Maybe 'sell on the tip' is good advice but in this case they still look good value. The horrendous spread must put some potential buyers off, but historically it has been a high yielded with occasional special divis so it's in my LTBH holdings.

50 years on... and charter firm for football clubs Air Partner is really going places

Air Partner has been operating in the market for more than 50 years, chartering commercial, private and freight jets for customers ranging from footballers to car makers to entrepreneurs. The shares are 377½p, but should increase substantially over the next few years. The principal business charters jets when large numbers of people need to be flown in or out of specific locations. This year, for example, the firm supplied the planes when a car maker was launching a new vehicle and needed to fly 15,000 people to a European city from destinations across the Continent. Oil companies use the firm to transport staff to inaccessible areas and it also operates an emergency division, transporting people out of locations at speed, if necessary. When violence erupted in South Sudan earlier this summer, for instance, Air Partner airlifted expats from the country within just four hours.

The charter business accounts for around 60% of Air Partner’s profits. It operates globally and last year grew by 12% with further solid growth expected during 2016. The private plane division accounts for about a third of the group and is growing fast, with profits up 17% last year. As terrorism becomes an increasing concern in busy, main-stream airports, wealthy individuals and high-ranking businesspeople are chartering private aircraft so they can fly in and out of smaller and possibly safer airports, such as Farnborough in the UK or Le Bourget, near Paris.

Chief executive Mark Briffa......is an expert in all aspects of plane chartering, but last year he decided to expand the company into a couple of new areas to broaden its range. First, he bought Cabot Aviation, which tries to find new buyers for used aircraft......In most cases, airlines want to offload older planes, but the group has recently begun selling on new aircraft too – planes such as the Boeing Dreamliner and the Airbus 350 that have been ordered by national carriers but are now considered surplus to requirements.

A year ago, Air Partner bought aviation safety consultant Baines Simmons, which provides training and advice for airlines on regulation, compliance and related areas......As a top firm in the field, Baines Simmons is expected to deliver considerable growth. The company also helped the Isle of Man to set up an aircraft registry business. Every plane in the world has to be registered with a national aviation authority to prove it is safe to fly and has complied with all the rules and regulations. The Isle of Man specialises in private and corporate jets and, from a standing start in 2007, it is now the fastest growing aircraft registry in the world.

Air Partner is not immune to the uncertainty following the UK’s referendum on EU membership. However, business remains brisk so far and the group operates overseas, so it should benefit from sterling’s weakness. Brokers expect profits to rise 16% to £5m in the year to January 31 and to £5.7mn in 2018. The company, which is expected to deliver a positive trading update this week, has a long history of generous dividend payments and it is forecast to pay 25p in 2017, putting the shares on a yield of more than 6%.
