Hi Greenroom78,

As you point out, you don't get any extra data, but you do get an extra platform for looking at the data on, which is what the Mobile Access subscription pays for.

By not including the cost in all subscriptions across the board we avoid getting those who don't want to use the service from having to pay for it, rather than making everyone who pays for data subsidise those that want to view it on the app as well. This means you only have to pay if you want to use the service, if you don't want to use it, you don't have to pay.

Sorry jgpgw, but paying £5/m is paying for the same data twice!

The premium features on the App is the same data we already pay for, we don't get any extra data for our £5 just the option to view it using the same internet only on a different device (i.e. a phone or tablet).

It is just another way to try and get those of us that do pay a fee to further subsidise those that don't.

The App is far better than the last one but the pricing is all wrong. If we buy L2 data from ADVFN it really shouldn't matter what we choose to view it on.

Hi johnsalv,

You do only have to pay for the data once and can use the app for free if you'd like. If you want to get the premium features you subscribe to through the app as well, you need to take the Mobile Access sub.

The Mobile Access sub activates your premium features on the app, so taking only that sub will activate nithing. Taking it with a sub that gives you live data will allow you to use the live data via the app as well as the site.

I agree with Greenroom78 we should only pay for the data once.

ADVFN - Am I correct in thinking - if I cancel my £14 pm subscription I can now download your APP and pay £5 pm and use my Ipad / Iphone?

Hi John

The keep me logged in is switched on, just seems crazy that it keeps dropping the enable streaming button. Alo the favourite BB doesn't update, have to log into the desktop version to get the updates. While I think the app is a good start do think you have some way to go to make it good for all. Think for know I will stick with the Desktop and wait for the first update and then re-look.

I'm referring to the features you mentioned in post 21 when the phone is turned on its side

"You can in fact turn the phone on it's side to get a different style of quote page. It also reveals a Charts button, which you can hit to see a dedicated charts page with a bigger chart."

This doesn't happen for me as I said in post 23 "If I turn the phone on its side on the quotes page I just see the top half of the same quotes page (down to the top of the charts) which I can't move, and no chart button? In addition there are some numbers at the bottom of the screen like some kind of scale."

Hi RJD123,

You shouldn't need to keep enabling streaming if you select "Keep me logged in" on the log in screen.

The time you get depends on the number of other people trying to look at the data for free at the same time as you. If you subscribe to the UK Silver sub you'll get unlimited access to the data on your computer. You can add the Mobile Access sub as well to get that on the app as well if you'd like.

Send me a PM with your phone number and I'll give you a call to get that sorted out if you'd like.

Hi On Target,

Can you let me know / remind me what you mean about the landscape mode?

Why do I have to keep having to enable the streaming in the settings!! And why do I get a pop up saying streaming is only available for a short period please subscribe for longer? Also how long is the short period?

I look forward to the update. Will this also make the landscape-view work as expected?

John,

I think you are missing the point. I would be interested in using the App for live prices but as I already pay ADVFN for that data I do not intend to pay them again for the same data viewed on a different device. Next you'll be charging me separately to view the data on my PC and laptop.

My point is, the data you supply is no different and it should be of no interest to you which device I decide to view it on. I am disappointed that I am being asked to pay more for it when I already pay ADVFN more for my L2 package than the likes of iii, m.oneyam, digital_look etc charge for theirs.

Shame.

Hi Greenroom78,

We offer contended prices live for free in the app. This is the same model that is used on the Share Price app.

You only have to pay once for the data, the Mobile Access subscription will enable you to see it live on your iPhone or iPad, if you want that. You only have to pay to access live prices via your mobile if you want to use that feature though. This means your subscription is completely unaffected in terms of cost and access if you don't have any interest in the app.

Hi jgpgw,

Thanks for your reply. I am not questioning the service on my computer but I am questioning the morals of you trying to charge me extra to view the same data that I am already paying for on a separate device. It is of no concern to ADVFN what device I view the information I already pay for on and personally I think it is disgusting you are trying to charge more for it.

Like you say, due to the exchange requirement I cannot view both at the same time so paying extra to see the data on my phone (which is still an internet device the same as my PC) so I am essentially getting nothing new for my extra £5.

I won't be subscribing to it, and I note you fail to comment that shareprice.co.uk offer live price streaming free of charge and you also haven't acknowledged how your live price/L2 service is already more expensive than most of your competitors.

Shame you feel the need to try and charge subscribers twice for the same data. Very disappointed.

Hi Greenroom78,

The service you subscribe to is unchanged, we have not modified the access you get on the computer at all. The app is an additional way to see prices and other bits and pieces we offer.

You can actually see live prices on the ADVFN app for free as well, although you will be timed out after a period of time, as you are on the website when looking at prices for free.

The automatic log out you see on your computer when you log into your phone and vice versa is an exchange requirement I'm afraid; they only allow you to use a licence to view live prices on one device at a time.

Personally I think it is wrong that I should have to pay more to get live streaming on my phone when I already pay ADVFN a higher price than most of its competitors for the same data on my PC. Of what interest is it to ADVFN what device I view the data I am paying for? Just seems like another way to extract money from those of us that already subsidise it for the rest of the non-paying users.

Shareprice.co.uk offer free streaming of live prices, I don't see why ADVFN can't do the same for paying customers at least.

Also I don't like the way when you log in on your phone it automatically logs you out of your PC session. Again, very annoying.

Hi whitestone, the old app would have given you delayed stock prices, even with your subscription. The new app gives you live prices, you don't even need the £5/month Mobile Access sub for that, that's completely free.

You will get timed out of the live prices after a bit of time and have to re-connect without the MA sub. If you want to add the ability to get live prices on the new app, you will need to get the subscription.

You can carry on using the old app if you'd like, or you can use the browser version at if you'd prefer.

I currently pay a subscription and when away from my main computer am able to use the current App to view stock prices on my iphone.

If I download this App am I now being asked to pay £5 for something previously provided for free..are existing App prices live and new App prices delayed .. not very clear at all as to what's going on...

looneytune, the Mobile Access subscription gives you live access via the app, a new service on top of the website that has required extensive coding. The app can be used for free with delayed data (LSE data is actually live for UK users, but you'll get timed out eventually), but if you would like to get live data or Level 2 via it, you will need a subscription that costs £5/month.

Your Level 2 subscription is exactly the same, you still get the data live via the website as before, that is unchanged. If you would like to start getting the live data via the new app as well now though, you just need the Mobile Access sub.

No you don't understand what i'm saying - it is a con as i already pay a subscription but you want to charge me another subscription for something i already subscribe to. If i pay you a monthly premium why therefore should i pay you more for the same privilege?

Hi On Target,

Your connection does sound fine in that case. I've just been chatting with one of the app developers. He has just written in a fix for a bug on ICS that sounds quite similar to your no prices/volume bug. The update should be out early next week via Google Play. Fingers crossed this will solve the problem for you.
