08/11/2013 10:32 | Wind still firmly in our sails. One of the best Gold recoveries out there. Happy days :-) | sawadee3
07/11/2013 11:37 | Yae . Lucky this barish views in gold helped me get in to rand gold . At prices i could not have imagined. Before i used to be invest mainly in abg but i got a feeling abg were struggling a few things and lot of negative news on reporting days . So when the take over option came i sold out was waiting to get in to rand gold but it was too costly at 7000p .By then came the gold price fall . Did lots of in and out finally bought the full capacity at 4630on the recent fall in anticapition of todays results .Feel cosy with improving gold prospects and rrs redused cash cost plus increased production .what more can a long term investor ask for. Goodluck to all here . | robrah
07/11/2013 10:50 | long way to go this will be a great stock. - Robrah great results from randgold these will be cherry picked for takeover. | sago2
07/11/2013 08:22 | Abg above 200p, give it another 5 years and I may break even on this one. At least it appears to have bottomed out and is heading in the right direction. | addison17
05/11/2013 07:46 | Looks like we're in good company chaps - hxxp://goo.gl/fdeRGI Dominic Picarda Buy Call on ABG | leecoyote
30/10/2013 15:43 | Pollen .I am still around .The company has done well to achive the cost saving that they have .and the share price is reflective. It is surprising how quickly they cut the cost of prodiction down . Hmm . Wonder why it took them so long to do it .Well see if they can do it consistantly. My bearish view was mainly due the abg missing target frequently and incurring higher cost of production compared to peers .Abg have done well .and with the price of gold higher .should help push the share price . HigherHow ever would i invest here for the long term . Na randgold has far more growth and great management and long term potential due to their competative advantage. | robrah
30/10/2013 14:23 | Robrah - is very quiet. Wonder why? | pollen8
30/10/2013 13:29 | here we go | lovegod2
30/10/2013 12:01 | Da Powah!!! Happy days :-) | sawadee3
30/10/2013 09:57 | Aye it all looks quite positive. I have not been a holder for quite some while, I sold half my holding at 443 last September and the rest ditched im May at 152 on the way down after the Chinese offer failed to materialise. Big gap up today, I have put a "think about buying " alert at the bottom of the gap and will keep an eye on it. I have dumped all of my mining stocks over the last 18 months and just dipped my toe in again with HOC this week. | enami
30/10/2013 08:25 | SP reflecting positive results. | pollen8
30/10/2013 07:51 | Re todays update, profit down but generally positive statement (ie jam tomorrow), not sure how the share price is going to react. | addison17
30/10/2013 07:15 | Gold's got to get past $1450 and stay there for more than month before we could really start saying Gold's recovering IMHO. | bulltradept
22/10/2013 19:57 | I surprise there had been no mention of the gold price surge! | shaf200
20/10/2013 17:45 | agree drewz | lovegod2
18/10/2013 12:53 | ABG is a better bet than Randgold because current ABG price is more distressed than Randgold: more risk = more reward, potentially. ABG has had problems. ABG is in process of restructuring. Eventually, if sucessful, the discount in the ABG price will be unwound. In other words, ABG is more highly geared to any recovery in the gold price. Also Randgold is more fully covered by city fund managers so less opportunity for price discovery. So I consider there to be more upside in ABG than in Randgold. Hope this helps. | drewz
18/10/2013 12:36 | Ok dewz lets take your base case. Can you explaine why abg is a better bet the rand gold .?Randgold deliver more gold . They have a better cost structure . They dont have the same power problem like abg . Nor do they have major local problem .So at any gold price why would abg be better the randgold . Evn if price of gold was 2000 . Why would i go for abg when randgold is so much more better ?And if the prospect so superb why would the parent allow abg to go independent .why would they throw their crown jewels ? | robrah
18/10/2013 12:07 | Nomura price target for ABG is 250p. With the US$ starting to break down after the debt ceiling fiasco and market realisation that QE to infinity is baked in as the only means of keeping interest rates down and US bond purchases going, gold can only move higher through 2014 and a 250p price target will soon look very conservative, imho. Gold will be somewhere between $2000 and $2500 by Q42014, and daily girations of $100+ will become commonplace, imho. 16 Oct 2013 African Barrick... ABG Nomura Buy 155.20 154.10 250.00 250.00 Reiterates | drewz
17/10/2013 12:53 | keeps looking at 155 but then goes shy every time .....gold $70 higher than on tues but abg little change .....vol's poor | mrminister
17/10/2013 12:53 | Rob, there is no chance of gold staying around $1300. It is going much higher, imho. The Chinese are now well set in establishing their currency as an alternative to the dollar for international trade - did you see the deal they did with Osborne this week for the renminbi to be traded as a convertible currency in the City's FX markets? They are positioning to have the Chinese dollar replace the US dollar as world reserve currency, backed by gold. As the markets finally cotton on to what this means, gold will head north rapidly. In addition, recent gold weakness has heavily constrained gold production as miners retreat to higher grades and lower ore throughput, at the same time as China and India are buying the equivalent of total annual western mine production! This can only drive gold prices north. Despite the likes of UBS, JPMorgan and GSachs orchestrating paper gold sell offs to try and suppress gold and support the value of the $, ETF funds have been drained of physical. Be prepared for fireworks in the next 6 months! | drewz
17/10/2013 08:16 | Dewz i agree with randgold but i do not see the bull case with abg in this environment .As i have always said . Pick of the 2 has always been randgold considering their cost advantage .I still say abg will do well if price of gold will sustain around 1400 to 1500. But in an environment where gold is around 1200 to 1300. Abg have a serious disadvantage . | robrah
17/10/2013 01:38 | Nomura said it has been 'somewhat perplexed' by gold's recent weakness during the US government shutdown, but said it was positive on the outlook for gold prices until the end of the year. Nevertheless, the broker has downgraded its ratings for gold mining peers Polymetal and Centamin after both stocks reached its target prices. "However should gold prices find support again, we would expect these companies, along with Randgold and our top pick African Barrick Gold (ABG) to outperform," Nomura said. | drewz
11/10/2013 17:01 | Love the spin they put on it .wanna go independent lol . Only way this can do better is if price of gold remains above 1400 . I mean well above . You never know what cause a spike in the cost of production .Lower grade . Theft . Lack of power. High cost of fuel .strikes .tax hikes.alleged Poor human right record by influancial II. We have heard them all at . Well not sure about strikes. | robrah |
