Yes. Hope that proves the bottom for now. Still a bit bemused though given ASHM another play on emerging markets is up nicely today. But hey ho as long as it moves nicely higher over the next 12 months I suppose it doesn't matter.

That's a 10% fall since just before the end of December. Quite a tanking! Glad I held off buying this morning. This must represent a great buying opportunity now surely?? Will look for an entry point if I can spot a sustained bounce...

Most recent targets I can find. Berenberg 555p, Cannacord 586p, RBC Capital 550p although others are lower or perhaps not yet updated for the deal. Just need emerging markets to pick up then. Thx.

Aberdeen often falls sharply when Asia & Emerging Markets are weak.

Hang Seng closed -209.63 (-1%)
Nikkei 225 closed - 241.12 (-1.5%)

It's a high beta share too, so quite volatile generally and falls or rises faster than the wider market.

In my view nothing to be alarmed about, this is a cracking company - just looked through the annual report for 2013 and the growth is seriously impressive!

Does seem particularly weak for some reason. Anyone else hearing anything?

More sizeable top up today and hope we bounce. Certainly can be volatile this one.

16/1 is just the AGM, not results.

The SWIP acquisition looks a great deal to me and transforms the AUM for a very reasonable price indeed. Sets Aberdeen on the right track to become a truly global asset manager. I also invest in a number of the Aberdeen investment trusts, all of which are very well run.

I've been holding a modest investment in Aberdeen for the past year and it is undoubtedly the most volatile share in my portfolio. It is also a share whose earnings consensus forecasts have not been wholly accurate and where fears of a BRIC meltdown appear to have been overdone. Looking through the above posts I was interested in the remark that Lloyds paid 7bn for SWIP in 1999. If it is now changing hands for little more than 15% of that figure there must be value in the acquisition. Looking at prospects for the share price I'm thinking about the overall value of the acquisition, the recent strength in sterling, an election in India in the Spring, unexciting Brokers forecasts for 2014, slightly dampened enthusiasm for the acquisition amongst the institutions and where the FTSE is likely to be heading this year. I'm in the top up camp but the question is when!

I'm holding, having bought at 365p - great company in my view, very impressed by latest results, not least the 39% increase in the dividend.

My only caution would be that Aberdeen, like most fund managers, can be volatile and tends to rise & fall faster than the wider market. Also they remain very reliant on Emerging Markets (but recent acquisition will help reduce that reliance over time), so any negative news from China / Asia (as in this morning) tends to lead to a markdown.

Overall though I'm positive and happy to hold in my SIPP for growth and growing income.

Considering the £28M fine for Lloyds and their need to review all these sales of investment products, are we going to gain good volumes of future business from the Lloyds connection thru' SWIP?

Two directors, Young and Richards, are reported as selling substantial holdings the day before the shares becoming XD . The dividend to be paid at end of January,10p, is less attractive to them tax wise I presume than the capital gain.
