Besides when the price rises so much, it can only be down to institutional buying.

This has held up very well recently, was hoping to top up, but pleased to be long term holder.

Action valuation does look rich, but if store openings continue at rate of 16% of existing sites and lfl sales are up 5%, and stores generate cash rapidly then probably justified. Liquidity event in second half of 2019 trailed in results for full year should support/disprove this valuation.

Quarterly Investment Report:

I see their Action stake has revalued by 13% in the quarter. (£ only fell from €1.16 to €1.12 in the period.)

Agree, but not sure how you know institutions are still buying?
Apart from being a good investment in its own right the company is probably a good hedge against weakening sterling due to its strong Euro and USD investments

...we have implemented an alternative regulatory structure, which includes an AIFM in Luxembourg, which has taken over the operations of 3i's existing branches in France, Germany and the Netherlands from 1 April 2019. This new structure will enable 3i to continue its activities in Europe regardless of the form and timing of Brexit.

I think most UK asset managers have done the same, with Luxembourg the favoured spot. (There's no requirement to learn Luxembourgish, fortunately!)

I don't think stockmarket IPOs are much favoured in Europe, but aren't all that well-informed.

Hopefully the liquidity event will provide corroboration re value of 3i's most valuable investment. All round decent set of full year results.

Yes, interesting. Could result in an IPO of Action maybe?

FY results out.

This is the "liquidity event" mentioned earlier:

3i owns 44.3% of Action and also manages Eurofund V ("EFV"), which owns 33.2% of the company. Action is one of two remaining companies in EFV. The final extension of EFV is scheduled to end in November this year. As a result, 3i is working closely with the team at Action to facilitate a transaction that will allow those investors who wish to realise their interest in Action by November 2019 to do so. 3i intends to maintain its current level of exposure in Action and we expect that a number of other investors are likely to retain a substantial part of their holdings.
