The Indonesian rupiah lost ground against the U.S. dollar in Asian deals on Thursday, as explosions and gunfire in central Jakarta left around six dead.
There were several explosions in Indonesian capital, Jakarta. It happened at a Starbucks cafe, Burger King and a police post near Sarinah shopping mall.
The Jakarta Composite Index fell around 1.6% following the news.
The Indonesian rupiah depreciated to 1403 against the U.S. dollar, its weakest since December 18. At Wednesday's close, the pair was worth 1382. The next possible support for the Indonesian rupiah is seen around the 1420 zone.
