At 4:30 am ET Friday, the Office for National Statistics publishes U.K. public sector finance figures. The budget deficit is forecast to narrow to GBP 8.5 billion in September from GBP 10.5 billion in August.

Ahead of the data, the pound showed mixed trading against its major rivals. While the pound rose against the euro, it held steady against the U.S. dollar, the yen and the Swiss franc.

As of 4:25 am ET, the pound was trading at 0.8891 against the euro, 1.2179 against the Swiss franc, 1.2236 against the U.S. dollar and 127.05 against the yen.
