Like this update.Trading in line. Customer base stabilised. Cash position stabilised. Excess inventory being liquidated. Company recognising it needs to be leaner and adjust to current market conditions (although I feel for those that will lose their jobs in this economic environment) Let's see how the market reacts but this is one I like due to the management and the tangible recovery plans. Add director and linked persons share purchases and the recent major shareholder increases - a good long term play.

One of the big problems with WINE in the past was the inventory levels.
It is a major plus that this has been reduced.
Hence the market reaction this morning
I think we might have outed a few sore shorters here

It's such a shame that after holding Majestic, I ended up with shares in the fiasco which is Naked Wine. At least I managed to sell out some years ago, and avoided the worst of the rout. Meanwhile, Majestic goes from strength to strength....the below is from The Telegraph newspaper...

The boss of Majestic Wine has vowed to double down on Britain’s high streets as he revealed plans to open dozens of new stores.

John Colley, chief executive of Majestic, has said brick-and-mortar outlets will remain “sacrosanct221; at the company while he is at the helm.

Over the past four years, Majestic has opened 15 new stores after it was bought by US private equity firm Fortress.

However, Colley now wants to ramp up this expansion, targeting suburbs that have been largely sheltered from the cost of living crisis.

“I think we can open another 50 or so stores in the next four or five years, which is a significant investment,” he says.

Britain’s market towns, such as Henley and Marlow, are the focus of Majestic’s expansion, while the business also aims to roll out smaller stores as well as its better-known warehouse-style outlets.

“We’re an island of shopkeepers and we like the shopping experience,” Colley says.

Majestic has spent the past four years pursuing a turnaround designed to restore its reputation among the middle classes after it split from Naked Wines in 2019.

I've been a nw customer for about 6 years I kind of know the growers and grape styles I like they've always been better than what you get at supermarkets. The problem with UK supermarkets is they have a small selection of different wines of each region in the world taking up several aisles. Always hit and miss. NW do have a problem they have got a massive inventory of wine from growers that aren't so popular. That is the problem they've got how do you value hard to sell wine without dumping below cost? All of the wines I choose are the fine wines that have drink before dates 10 to 15 years from now that age really well racked. Trouble is cheaper wine has a shelf life of only 3 years. Look at what's on offer at supermarkets cheaper wines with 3 yr shelf life. I'd be cautious as an investor for that reason

I did get some very disappointing overpriced wine at Naked. It didn't take long for me to realise that all those "brilliant deals" offered at huge discounts were simply discounting vastly overpriced wines in the first place.

OK, the supermarkets will try the same stunt, but not as bad as these "wine clubs".
