Posted at 15/3/2024 12:27 by jacko07 Nice boost from Shore Capital who say ITV share price is worth at least 60% more than 72p....that would be 116p. Can't be bad! |
Posted at 15/3/2024 11:21 by stag6 Typical that a buyback is announced by the comatose ITV BoD after they sell their piece of BritBox, those funds should have either paid down debt or a special dividend paid to shareholders nursing losses from a sick dog'A buyback helped the share price a little bit from a 60% loss to a 50% loss since Lame Dame McCall arrived at ITV. She has the opportunity to give something back to disgruntled shareholders but chose to give Morgan Stanley a nice lump of commission in a buyback that will do zilch for shareholders. Talking to a guy this week who had just sold his entire large holding of ITV for 68p to get out for good. He stated it's the worst BoD of any media company out there! and many would agree with that sentiment! |
Posted at 15/3/2024 10:54 by jacko07 netcurtains, Slater5 is about right that ITV are now back to flat lining...it may not be normal to you that they are buying back shares, but it now old news. Sadly you think this 300 million share buyback has more legs, isn't that 25% rise a great bonus.Go and look at the Lloyds £2 billion share buyback, the bloody share price fell from 45p to 40p, buybacks have an effect when announced, traders take their profits and then it's back to the same old..albeit the share price is higher! If ITV's buyback is to bolster the sp, then great, it's 25% higher which has put around 500 million on the Mkt Cap. |
Posted at 14/3/2024 20:26 by jagworth RNS Number : 8916RITV PLC 01 November 2023 ITV plc Total Voting Rights - Voting Rights and Capital In accordance with 5.6.1 of the Disclosure and Transparency Rules, the Company notifies the market of the following: The Company's issued share capital as at 31 October 2023 consisted of 4,052,409,194 ordinary shares of 10p each, with voting rights. Posted at 13/3/2024 09:22 by slater5 Anyone here invested in Lloyds? if you are, the Lloyds buyback when announced sent the share price up 10%. It was a rise that lasted days. The share price then fell back and the buyback did zero for it. I know ITV isn't Lloyds, but buybacks generally don't send the share price up, results and events do.ITV should have rewarded shareholders with a special dividend, this buyback is window dressing. |
Posted at 12/3/2024 16:55 by jacko07 Huckers..for every buyer there is a seller, large holders in ITV like those huge funds will sell call and put options to obtain an income from their holdings. The derivatives market is huge and very profitable. If a trader is holding say 100,000 shares in ITV that they bought for that 60p a few weeks back and they want to draw in some income. At today's 70p and they think that is a peak fr a few months, they can sell 100 june 70p call contracts at say 3p and they will receive 100k x 3p or £3k as a premium (+ dealing)...if the share falls or stays static they make £3k profit, if the share rises to 75p, they can either buy the option back and close it or let the call option holder exercise the 100k shares for 70p. If they are called on expiry or before they will have made £10k profit on the shares plus £3k profit on the option. If the share price is 71p in June, the 100k contract will be worth £1k and it can be closed for £1k giving a £2k profit. If the share price is underwater or par on expiry the whole £3k is profit to the shareholder. There are many different examples of how options can be traded, but it isn't something for the novice or faint hearted. But if you are a large holder of any stock listed on ICE, you can make money by selling calls against that stock which is how many funds return an income. If a share goes ex div in an option period, the shareholder is entitled to the div, but there is a market adjustment to allow the option holder to benefit. Put options work in the oppsite way, profits are made when the share price falls. Go on to Investopedia and read their bumpf on it, it explains many things..... |
Posted at 12/3/2024 13:30 by jacko07 Triky, the stockmarket is all about next week, next month, the buyback has been announced, you have had the fruits already. The buyback is old news, you have had the rise, it's baked in. The news of ITVx being successful and advertising picking up will see the share price benefit. We need more updates from the ITV board, their lack of communication is a blight on the share price. |
Posted at 12/3/2024 12:24 by cautios7 Corby is correct, buybacks do not make the share price soar, take Lloyds £1.75 billion buyback, it started in late 2022 and the share price did not perform, in fact it went down from 45p to 40p so it isn't gonna put a rocket under ITV.The announcement, the success of ITVx a low Mkt cap and a return of advertising is what's moving ITV. It's undervalued. |
Posted at 12/3/2024 11:31 by corby3 Ramping...that's funny, Warren Buffett couldn't successfully ramp ITV in the last 5 years. Don't rampers flood the thread with bullish comments. Goldfinger posts sporadically and in fairness has been correct on many things. If MM's were not assisting in the hoovering up of millions of shares, how did Silchester accumulate 5% as the share price fell....makes no sense. If it's guesswork or luck, then he must have a crystal ball. A buyback hasn't started yet and won't send the share price zooming up even if they can fulfill their orders. |
Posted at 11/3/2024 11:57 by matthewr1 Ok , let me repeat what I posted last week around buybacks as the comments seem confused today. The buyback has approval to start but as of Fridays close has not started. As soon as it does you will see an RNS release before 7:30am the following business day. Excellent etc the numbers to be low/disappointing as there are strict rules around the execution of a buyback. It CANNOT be seen to be moving the share price or ramping the share price and as such is therefore limited to a small % of the daily volume. But not the volume that someone’s mentions today of 56m shares since the 7th. That is total volume of and not the key parameter , which is order book volume on the exchange. As such it is likely to be far less than 500k shares a day , seeing as volume has been so subdued (apart from the last week). The Corporate broker (in this case Morgan Stanley) cannot purchase a block off an individual seller (institution) as that would be perceived as a ‘private sale,’ and is therefore not allowed under the buyback rules. The fact that Morgan Stanley’s research dept is negative on the stock is irrelevant. Their Corporate broking arm is handling the purchase , most likely through a passive algo. The buyback authority lasts for 18 months and I expect it to take at least that long. Plenty of hedge funds still hate ITV and the UK so are likely to stay short. The buyback is helpful , but PASSIVE. |
