PARIS--France's trade deficit narrowed in March from February as imports fell faster than exports in an environment of declining trade in goods, the French customs office said Wednesday.

The trade deficit of the eurozone's second-largest economy fell to 4.37 billion euros ($5.02 billion) in March from EUR5.12 billion in February.

"Trade clearly declined in March after a good performance in February," the customs office said. Exports fell to EUR36.38 billion from EUR37.87 billion and imports fell to EUR40.75 billion from EUR42.98 billion.

Separately, the Bank of France said that France's current account deficit--a broader measure of how much an economy owns overseas, including services--shrunk to EUR1.8 billion in March from EUR4.1 billion in February. Revenue from services rose to a surplus of EUR1.2 billion in March from a deficit of EUR0.1 billion in February, the Bank of France said.
