This is the year that the RingProp becomes the prop. of first choice in the outboard motor leisure marine market driven by personal safety and environmental imperatives. In the U.S. the courts are already becoming much more aggressive about the damage caused to humans and the environment by the trad. open-bladed prop. and prop.guards and cages are ineffective and fuel inefficient as well as reducing performance by up to 65%.Recent court cases support this and Yamaha have recently settled out of court for $9 million for a serious but not fatal injury caused to a boater.
In Florida [and other U.S. areas] the damage caused to Manatees, dolphins, turtles and other marine life is a major concern as it is in other parts of the world.Once the Ring prop is on the market there is a serious personal liability issue if a seller of props does not offer the RingProp as an option. The world market is about 10 million props per year and there is no competition as yet. This prop. outperforms an open-bladed prop in every aspect except absolute top speed with superior acceleration, manoeuvrability, fuel consumption--no need for trim tabs or steering friction adjustments-and no torque steer. It bounces off objects without engaging them and has proved itself for a number of years in Antarctic conditions with the Australian Govt. whose armed forces use this prop.It has a registered Nato part number but has not been available in volume previously nor in a wide range of engine sizes and pitches. This about to change and our own M.O.D. IS VERY INTERESTED.
The world market is about 10 million props. per year and with the J.V. with J.L.French[a wholly owned sub. of the multi billion dollar Canadian Company ONEX Corporation]RingProp's ability to attack this market aggressively is clear.Production starts in the early summer after many months of the final testing procedures for the volume commercial product. There is considerable interest building up and the U.S. market needs this product.
The company is capitalised at approx.£20 million and even selling 100000 props. at say £60[RETAIL £130] turnover of £6million should produce £3million pre-tax but the market is 100 times that. This prop. will become the normal outboard prop making the open-bladed prop. redundant except in the top 2.5% of high speed boating.
Now is the time to consider this co. for the high performance portfolio. There is a detailed description of it on this board posted in October 2003.
