Looking like a done deal.
For someone who only bought in a couple of months ago at 305 I'm happy.
I will probably just wait until the end of this week before selling......just in case!

Surely not dithering?
I think it's clear, if Aberdeen says yes, share price won't drop much below 403p (time value and all that). If no, there's a bit of upside.

Since its looking more and more like a done deal, I decided to sell out this morning and have my money back working for me as opposed to sitting dead for a couple of months waiting for the offer to pay out. Couldn't get the touch price but at least got slightly over the offer price.

Schroders happy with the offer, waiting for Aberdeen, if they say yes, that's it.

Last week's IC had a long article on opportunities for retirement living, including MaCarthy & Stone.

John Laing achieves financial close in a UK specialised accommodation platform

John Laing Group plc ("John Laing" or the "Group"), the responsible investor and active manager of infrastructure projects internationally, is pleased to announce that all necessary approvals have now been obtained and it has achieved financial close on a UK-based specialised accommodation platform with McCarthy Stone.

As previously announced, the Group has achieved its full year guidance for 2021 of investment commitments of at least GBP100 million, with GBP107 million in new investment commitments. This comprises the investments in the UK-based specialised accommodation platform, the Pacifico 2 road PPP project, and a German fibre-to-the premise roll-out platform.

The big PE houses have reinvented themselves as alternative asset managers (basically copying Blackstone and Brookfield) Getting an infra asset management and development platform is hugely valuable I'd expect the acquisition (or at least the management rather than the actual assets) to be put into KKRs GP/management platform I'd hoped that one of the larger Canadian/Nordic pension funds would have stepped in

some comment in the Guardian today after the Bitcoin item.
..... it looks a poor moment to sell. The US is about to spend huge sums on infrastructure, pulling in private money in its wake. KKR, with its easy access to huge sums of cheap capital, will probably do very nicely. Unless Laing’s shareholders surprise everybody by saying no, private equity, sadly, looks set to win again.

Is it a counter bid or are the big shareholders saying the offer needs improving?

Interesting price action today.
I am not selling for a while just in case we see a new player enter the game!

Share price now above offer price! Does suggest market expecting another bid.

Brought JLG back in August 2020 as seemed a low risk share at a cheap price and with nice growth prospects. Through my work, I have a bit of experience of infrastructure projects. I am far from complaining about a 34% return if the sales goes through at 403p, even if I did buy with the idea of just tucking it away and hanging onto for many years. Personally if everything goes through then looking at investing those funds in Rathbones, which looks like another low risk but with a decent bit of upside, perhaps 20/30%.

Williamc - alternatives? DORE has just issued an update which is quite positive, yet the share price is a significant discount.
