Yes I thought so too, hybrasil. The effects of the housing slowdown were bound to be disappointing, but can't go on for ever.

Agreed The market has not factored in the recent Galliford Try contract or the latest acquisition as yet I would suggest there is 50% upside from here with a 3.1% dividend yield The yield is not great but the upside potential mitigates the lower dividend

Yes

This is yet another undervalued aim stock of which there are several. (and I own several!)

Floated in 2016 at £1 - I think its worth at least that at the moment

I think (hope) that today's announcement by Galliford is beneficial to Van Elle. They are already very strong in water board works at a time when a big push is coming in that industry, and have today announced a takeover of an electrical and mechanical co, which should enhance that strong position. That in turn makes the recent deal and alliance between GT & VE look very promising and well timed.

(Thanks Pug, hope we both have many years of posting left!)

I was pleased to see the details of the deal, which I think has many excellent aspects. Particularly pleasing to me was the deal with Galliford, as they are the biggest contractor in UK water company works and VE are almost not present in that field, which has huge essential expansion on the cards, whichever government we endure.

Thanks.

Change of government is an interesting scenario.
I would guess that it now guaranteed, as far as guarantees go.

We cannot predict how the change will be accepted
World
US
Europe
UK

Need to see their policies, but the city will be a key player, as ever.
Suspect they may not have room for significant change in the early days and they have to get those key platers onboard.

red:- good bottom line summary of the presentation. No mention however made of the potential benefit/risk from a likely change of government.

Personally I suspect that a bit like the "Curate's egg" Some good some bad but at the moment unable to compute the balance.

Thoughts?

I see it as a very positive move and at a modest price.
A strategic base in the south.
Capital equiment additions, saving £1m per annum for the next 5 years.
Expanded capaicity.
5 year closer working with Galliford Try.
Possible better access to contracts in the south of the country.
Part deferred consideration allows for integration and development of the 'new' business and to pay down the balance from positive cash inflows from growth.

The negative is the current state of the UK economy, and the length of time elapse before it returns to growth.

Management sounded encouraging - New purchase will substantially increase their capability and geographic footprint.

SP recovery will however very much depend on the execution - particularly on "inflation mitigation" clauses is current and future contracts.
