14/3/2024 10:52 | Whitby Mining Firm Backs "Made in Whitby" Initiative Mining firm, Anglo American, says it will continue to support local businesses on the Yorkshire Coast. The Woodsmith mine owner says it supported 73 new business launches in the area last year and has reaffirmed it's backing for the Made in Whitby scheme which has seen local firms band together to promote locally produced products. Vicky Bolton is Anglo American's Social Programmes Specialist, she says the firm is keen to support local business initiatives. Anglo American says the Woodsmith project generated an additional £305m for the local economy in 2023, bringing the total contribution to £1.5 billion since construction started in 2017. The project is now employing over 1,400 local people, which is 70% of the total workforce, far exceeding what was expected at this point in construction. Vicky Bolton says they will continue to support local business developments, including the Made in Whitby festival which is returning in July. thisisthecoast.co.uk | philanderer | |
