General:-

Avocet is a mining company listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of
the London Stock Exchange. The Company's principal activities are gold mining
and exploration in Malaysia (as 100% owner of the Penjom mine, the country's
largest gold producer), Tajikistan (as 49% owner and operator of the Zeravshan
Gold Company, Tajikistan's principal gold mine), and Indonesia (as 80% owner of
an advanced stage gold exploration property in North Sulawesi, currently at the
feasibility stage).

Statement by the Chairman, Nigel Mc Nair Scott:

"Avocet Mining's corporate objective is to build an increasingly profitable gold mining business in Asia. It will do this by optimising the performance of its existing operations and by providing growth through exploration, acquisitions and strategic alliances. Its medium-term goal is a minimum annual production of 300,000 ounces within three years.

It is of paramount importance to the Company that its operations adopt best industry practice standards at all times, especially in terms of the impact they have on the environment. Avocet also recognises its social responsibilities to the communities in which it operates. "
