The whole company doesn't make a natural acquisition for anyone as it's a bit of a random hodge podge of businesses . They'd have to sell parts of it like a revitalised TPG maritime business to unlock value

Two 50,000 buys have gone through to-day which presumably is either the company repurchasing more shares or a PI.

Whichever it turns out to be, it is good news

The guy won't even talk to his house broker to update forecasts :) . Quite handy that he's a bully though when we're engineering cut price takeovers of struggling companies

Not sure I agree with all of those comments.
Ratcliffe has run the company pretty well and its good to have a big hike in the dividend.

I do however agree that the company should have, and deserves to have, a higher market/public profile which would help it enormously.
Let's hope that happens sooner rather than later

I remain a long term holder.
All IMHO and DYOR

Ratcliffe has a nose for cheap companies but has a very high opinion of himself and a very low opinion of everyone else. Don’t feel too hard done by as PIs, he doesn’t care much for institutional investors either. I think the quote is as much about his ego rather than sharing the journey with others.

Could easily see Frontier return to making a few million operating profit a year which would really make the shares look stupidly cheap. Don't think management should moan about the low valuation until they make an effort to engage with private shareholders. Really not too much to ask to do an investor meet company presentation every six months . 2024 Forecasts look very beatable , perhaps upgrades to follow in broker note shortly .

The share buybacks last year shows long term confidence by the management. Their strong cash position leaves them well placed to make further acquisitions, which has worked well with TPG and Frontier.

If the stock market underperforms this year because of geopolitical tensions, then there may be other tempting targets, with good businesses seeing their share price drop solely down to market conditions, or a good company being let down by poor management, or a combination of both. SAG have proven they have a good nose for companies with untapped potential and their model of buying large stakes at distressed prices, before an eventual buyout, has proven very successful with TPG and Frontier.

Their main strength is the management. They know how to turnaround businesses and add value. Warren Buffett always says the first thing he looks at when making a purchase is the management. I have learned the hard way that you can have an excellent business but if you have a lot of clueless clowns in charge, it will still be driven into the ground (i.e. Frontier}. That is when well run firms like SAG step in.

This is still a long-term hold for me and I believe at some point a bigger player will see the strengths of this firm, and they will be a takeover target themselves (and at a hefty premium to today's price, IMHO).

PS. Happy Brexit Day!

Another 245,000 shares repurchased at 400p during past 2 weeks or so. No doubt using available cash.
Its hard not to feel very positive about it all.

But DYOR

Between 12th September and to-day the company has repurchased about 260,000 shares in a price range of 400/410 pence at a cost of just over £1 million which is pretty encouraging.

All IMHO and DYOR

Added to which they keep buying shares at around 400/405 so I remain reasonably confident bearing in mind recent weeks have also proved generally to be a pretty difficult market
All IMHO

You have seen the small cap market the past 18 months or so? SAG has held up pretty well.

This share has never returned to 450p since they bought the disparate parts of TPG, unlike previous takeovers. It wasn't the smartest of moves.

Thanks, interesting, and I agree with your comments.

Two large sells went through yesterday. We will perhaps know on Monday if the company bought back some/all of theses shares as it has been buying back recently.

While we wait for future updates, below is evidence of the encouraging spread of digital radio worldwide, with the Frontier division at the heart of it:

I think it will be a year or so before consumer confidence comes back. Once inflation and interest rates fall, and as discretionary spending returns, I think we will see DAB sales pick up and Frontier return to healthy profits.

Enjoy the Autumn Equinox, officially the start of autumn IMO.

The acquisition of TPG seems to be proving a success but a clearer picture should emerge with the accounts for full year.
On the other hand Frontier Smart Tech is having a more difficult year.
I hope that SAG allows more time to digest TPG before making another acquisition but there must be many quoted companies whose share price Mr. Radcliffe now finds attractive.
