schofip - not in the US you haven't got a 50% chance. They have a ZERO and a DOUBLE-ZERO both fail irrespective of your Red or Black choice, your Even or Odd or 1-18 or 19-36 choice.

Europe only have one zero so slightly better to play in Europe.

If the FTSE 100 falls big time, the good, bad and ugly all get hit.

You are better off on a roulette table. At least you have a 50% chance of success.

The US 10 Year Treasury yield is hitting 4.66%. The market sets longer duration bond prices and the market currently wants higher compensation (yield) for the perceived risk going forward. It's instructive to keep an eye on this rate if it edges nearer to 5%, it signals stress in the debt market.

This is not positive for stocks, high yielders tend to drop in price when interest rates rise, to compensate for higher yields in bonds.

It's already looking more doubtful that the US will cut rates this year, although the Federal Reserve has cornered itself so it's damned if it does and damned if it doesn't.

This will probably weigh heavily on stocks like PHNX. On the other hand it makes PHNX cheap to buy...

The rise of the past couple of days is rapidly being eroded.

I was sucked into believing this would break through 500p, but it's not going to yet.

Only sold 25% of my Phoenix to go into Bats, just to get an extra dividend in with Bats.Of course if FTSE 100 as a downturn, if the old adage sell in May comes right this year, everything gets hit, the good, bad and ugly.

Agree re BATS - i bought in when it dropped sub-£23. Far too few FTSE100 stocks are fairly rated

I took the reverse view (as an experiment) - I bought some ex-dividend as someone worked out the percentages... Its just over 50% chance that you make more money buying ex-dividend compared to before ex-dividend.

It's great but next dividend due in 6 months, that's why I sold some, put in Bats.

Agreed. At sub-500p and >10% sustainable yield these are attractive. Just need a re-rating - AV. is getting there.

Another strong opening on the cards today. Not sure exactly why the FTSE has turned so bullish. Quite typical before the divi reinvest season starts. These are still a good price even at 550p so are on my radar for topup . Just hoping market does not run away until then .. GLA

Got a nice profit with the 26.65p dividend on top, I think may sell a few above 490p and put into Bats, just feel more chance of shareprice growth, with a high dividend. But will only sell 25% of my Phoenix shares.
