hello
your company has been taking subscriptions from me using an expired card. How is this possible?

10:17:57 AM:

tipjunkie - English (UK)

10:17:57 AM:

Call accepted by Ruslan. Currently in room: Ruslan, tipjunkie.

10:17:57 AM: Ruslan:
Hi, all subscription renew automatically in order to stop you subscription being charged you need to give us a call

10:17:57 AM: tipjunkie:
how can you use an EXPIRED card to collect subscriptions

10:17:57 AM: Ruslan:
some card providers authorize a recurring payments even if a card is expired

10:17:57 AM: tipjunkie:
but you knew my card was EXPIRED why would you try to collect a payment. If I tried to use an expired card to buy something it would be FRAUD

10:17:57 AM: Ruslan:
that's because we didn't receive a sufficient notice to cancel

10:17:57 AM: Ruslan:
that you agreed to provide according to our terms and conditions

10:17:57 AM: Ruslan:

10:17:57 AM: tipjunkie:
what is 'continued authorisation'?

Dear tipjunkie - Your Credit Card has expired. Please click to confirm your card details or give us a call on +44 (0) 207 0700 961. If you don't update your subscription details your access to the service may stop.

Does not replying to this 'invitation' for three months count as 'continued authorisation'?

tipjunkie,

Yes, your particular card provider does not require this info; as long as the original card you've registered with is valid, the service will renew through the payment process called "continued authorisation".

let me get this straight

are you telling me that my card provider, barclays, does not require my card to have a valid expiry date and number and security number to authorise a payment?

tipjunkie 24 Feb'16 - 11:14 - 29 of 30 0 0 edit

a reply would be appreciated and I can then get on with suing Barclays plc

tipjunkie 24 Feb'16 - 11:17 - 30 of 30 0 0 edit

this could be PPI all over again!

c'mon ray lets have an answer

You should also ask your card provider why they accepted the payment request. The fault is with them, not ADVFN (the 3 digit security code will change when a new card is issued and the request should be bounced on that condition).

tipjunkie 24 Feb'16 - 10:59 - 41246 of 41246 1 0 edit

Exactly and I will be pursuing this.

However ADVFN should not knowingly try to collect from expired cards.

I don't want to thank you as I dont trust a company that knowingly takes money from expired cards.

I have not taken up your 'offer' to update my details for over three months. Does that tell you anything?

I will speak to my bank and put a stop to this.

tipjunkie,

It use to be the case that some card providers would allow a payment to continue if the expiry date had passed, as long as the card number remained the same.

Some card issues have changed this though so that both the expiry and the card number must be valid, which is why the prompt appears to update card details.

Not all providers require this though, as is the case with your card provider; so payments can still successfully go through for you.

If you need to update the card details or change the subscription, please call us on 0207 0700 961 and we can get that done for you.
