Following the acquisition of Selection Services in January 2016 and C4L in February 2016 by Castle Street Investments plc, we are delighted to confirm that we will be launching our new combined company identity and brand on 12th April 2016 at Cloud Expo Europe.

I would expect next aqusotion to drop any day. The company have had a chance to get their feet under the table and so the next quarter should see this moving up. Added to this new ISA allowance kicks in so should see some stake building

Could Bournemouth be first place to experience 5G mobile coverage?

Could Bournemouth be first place to experience 5G mobile coverage?

BOURNEMOUTH could be the first place in the country to experience 5G mobile coverage after the town was handed a “super exciting” opportunity in the Budget.

The government wants Bournemouth to be a key part of efforts to make the UK a world leader in developing the next generation of mobile technology.

The south west of England will be used as a case study, while Bournemouth is to be used for a trial of a “network planning tool”.

Bournemouth West MP Conor Burns, a parliamentary private secretary at the Treasury, said Bournemouth could be the first place in the country to try 5G.

“It will be a feasibility study to work out how you test the deployment of 5G and how it’s made useful therefore usable elsewhere,” he said.

Although the exact nature of 5G has not yet been defined, it would mean much faster uploading and downloading of data and increased capacity. It could be ready for commercial use in early 2020.

“More devices will be able to connect to the network at increasingly high speeds,” said Mr Burns.

He said Bournemouth would be ideal for the trial. “We’re one the biggest centres in the South West in terms of our proximity to London. We’re a relatively good size to do this sort of trial,” he said.

“It potentially gives a turbo-charge to our offer in terms of attracting companies to look at Bournemouth for start-ups and relocating businesses to Bournemouth.”

He said he had spoken to the chancellor about the strength of Bournemouth’s digital sector and the Silicon Beach conferences which bring together influential people in the industry.

Matt Desmier, of the consultancy Think Create Do, who launched Silicon Beach, hailed the “terrific news”.

“What makes this news super exciting is the fact that a small town like Bournemouth, and the strong digital community based here, has caught the attention of central government and is being recognised as the type of place where this should be trialled, ”he said.

“That is something that as a town, we should be really proud of. The narrative is changing.”

Matt Hawkins, chief technical officer of Castle Street Investments, which recently acquired the Westbourne IT infrastructure business C4L, said: “This announcement is fantastic for the region.

“By tirelessly improving fixed connectivity infrastructure here over the last few years, we have demonstrated we have created a real technical centre of excellence and replicating to industry-leading 5G mobile speeds will only help to further underscore Bournemouth’s leadership in this space.

“We hope to help on the project with our infrastructure connectivity and have a very positive expectation on what trialling in Bournemouth means for our South Coast Tech City."

The chancellor said the government would deliver a 5G strategy in 2017, based on the National Infrastructure Commission’s assessment of how Britain would become a world leader in 5G.

Russia is working on 5G technology to be demonstrated at the football World Cup, while South Korea aims to showcase its version at the Olympic Winter Games, both in 2018.
