“Saba has over 10% of this company, notification date 11 October”

And what is their risk? They wouldn’t give a toss if the price went to 0p, it’s just a fraction of AUM

The IC mentions a US activist investor buying up various trusts including this one.

"US activist Saba Capital Management has built up stakes in at least 10 UK-listed investment trusts"

Saba has over 10% of this company, notification date 11 October.

I'm not sure. I'd just put it down to a reaction to US inflation figures giving a pretty clear sign of rates having peaked and resultant reduction in debt servicing costs for smaller companies. As you say, it was a big move suggesting a big holding made an outsize move. I just don't know which one.

Any ideas on who’s been the big buyer? Most of the share price move has been driven by NAV tightening : unless I’ve missed something on the underlying companies (not sure they’ve done 10% in the last 2 days!!)

Smaller cos in general receiving better press of late. There's real value here imo. I've been topping up for a year now which has been pretty painful. Hopefully we're turning a corner.

It should filter down to JMI and MTU over the rest of the week - all
else being equal.

* £11.66 is the 12 month intra-day low from memory, low made at the height of the Truss plunge.

Added to JMI this morning, now completely out of RIII as that has significantly outperformed over the last 3 weeks. I bought JMI recently under 2.64 and sold over 2.69, now building a longer term position. Also looking at AUSC.

Liquidity is ebbing away atm and as such IT's, rather than holding smaller cap stocks directly, is arguably 'safer'.

My plan is to slowly recycle RII proceeds in the BRSC and JMI.

MRF, there was a share buyback here today by blackrock that helped the volume. We are close to a 3 year low here now

mrf, nope, exactly the reason I am holding off on MSLH for now.
Should be clearer at the next update.

That's difficult to say, BRSC had doubled from the 2008 GFC low by mid 2010.

I'm not sure that's a great guide though as back then equities were priced as if the
world was ending.

Have stuck MSLH on a watch list btw for a possible 2024 buy.

Yes, it just feels a little early to me, but if you've got a multi year time frame, perhaps not so critical. Small caps are always the last to recover, no?

Not usually ;

Recession risk is increasing and with that
smaller company share prices are under increasing pressure, as always it's very difficult to time a cycle low and not something I could attempt, let alone do.
With that in mind adding small amounts
as and when is the plan.
