"Someone with a lot of money to spend has taken a bearish stance on Etsy (ETSY)
And retail traders should know.

We noticed this today when the big position showed up on publicly available options history that we track here at Benzinga.

Whether this is an institution or just a wealthy individual, we don't know. But when something this big happens with ETSY, it often means somebody knows something is about to happen."

I mention this here in case anyone might find the Benziga website useful for following particular options stateside.

(I don't trade options myself, but having started an ETSY thread yesterday, this article popped up today on my news scan)

MC - you are welcome.

I am leaving tomorrow for Le Mans so may not post for a few days.

I suggest studying the 'covered call' scenario - a big boost to your income without taking on additional risk.

As you play around this site may help giving you premium data.

Good afternoon Alphorn.
You directed me to this thread from the LGEN thread earlier today, as a result of my question re. call/put options.

I've read the first 45 posts on this thread, skimmed a few others and come to the following conclusions:

i) I was lucky 35+ years ago in my options dealings
ii) I didn't understand the mechanics of such then
iii) I still don't.

I appreciate you taking the time to point me here and respect the knowledge that you clearly hold. I applaud you for offering to share that.

I think I will pass on the options as a result - looking for an easier life now in retirement.

Again, thankyou.

I've brought some SNAP call options which are causing me a strange level of neuroticism :) Although the market cap is 20% below the enterprise value so theoretically room for a correction.

Need to check out. I showed it as income one year (in the UK) - normally CGT.

Please post once you get an answer.

Stock options are CGT according to someone on the TSLA thread. Not sure about other options.

Hello. Old info. so someone needs to update if necessary. It depends upon whether you are treated as a trader or not, based upon several tests eg. number of trades.

Try the fixed income thread. Tilton will know I am sure.

Newbie question: what is the tax treatment of equity/index/ETF options (CGT/income/something else)?

Good luck Alphorn, I've been trying to find biographies of people who lived through Spanish Flu era 1918-1920 to get clues on how that ended.....but just typing that made me think 1929 crash.

Interconnectivity globally is so much greater now so I recon reinfections and lockdowns could be the new normal for some time.

In the past we built Tuberculosis hospitals to cope I'm worried that we haven't done the same for the pandemic. We are looking at a dangerously over optimised underfunded NHS.

Testing is the answer IMHO care workers hacve to test before going to work. Could be the same for everyone.

Good morning Profit - well thanks and I hope that you are too.

Last few years have done very well on forex and little activity on options due to the Brexit uncertainty. Now that things are 'calmer' it may be time to write options again.
I have started with a forex covered (GBP) put on a cash deposit that kicks off with a 3% return and then will write covered puts on top to give a nice yield. Boring is good.

I haven't moved out of Switzerland for over a year but with a brilliant summer was often out on the lake. What are you up to?

edit: fwiw I have a negative outlook over the next 12mths but feel that we are close to a floor taking some risk out of writing puts. What do you think?

Praipus - pleased to hear that. I have written few equity options over the recent years - the potential of Deal/No Deal for me was too dangerous. Instead maintained large forex allocations/positions, including writing forex options.
Now may be the time to restart FTSE equity options again, for income - a slow return to normality?

Any views?
