26/3/2024 14:41 | Kier is apparently handling the design and build for the Mansfield project. BBC reporting here: Mansfield District Council has appointed Kier Group to undertake phase one of the £30m Mansfield Connect project. The 1930s former Beales building will be turned into a modern, multi-agency and community hub, officials said. Work is expected to start on site in January 2025, with it being fully operational and open in January 2027. | stdyeddy
26/3/2024 11:51 | Waterbeach new school planning and construction has been delayed due to costing. I think it is in both Central and Local Government interest to slow down issuing work so firms cut their prices and it feeds through to tender and contract sums. In following such a strategy I think we shall see a few bad months for the construction sector. | stutes

25/3/2024 16:02 | Boeing Inc have decided to strengthen the Board and I believe Ocado need a Board that focuses on profit and dps rather than rapid Empire building. Look how UK CFC rollout has been cut , better a measured rollout rather than a faster one. | stutes
21/3/2024 14:29 | New project win for Kier, one of hundreds of contracts on the go. Kier has been selected as the preferred bidder by Cardiff Council for the construction of the new Ysgol Cynefin school in Wales, UK. The £23m ($29.42m) development aims to expand the school’s capacity by relocating and rebuilding it across two sites in Cardiff. | itisonlymoney
21/3/2024 13:39 | The BoE is keeping rates at 15yr high while HMG's tax take is at the highest on record, we also have Mace warning about contractors lowballing. It all bodes of a slow down orchestrated by HMG/BoE. We also have a looming General Election, the timing of which could slow spending decisions till there is clarity on future capital spending - Sunnica solar project? | stutes
19/3/2024 15:46 | It's usually the other way around and the bigger risk lies with the subcontractor. If a subcontractor fails, he is paid in arrears, so the Main Contractor will still be holding the funds and can use these to find others to complete the job. If the main contractor fails, the subcontractor may not get paid for work completed, even though the main contractor is able to charge the client. I was a developer through the difficult days of the 1980s/1990s and we had several main contractors go bust on us. The subbies always came to us pleading to be paid direct but, sadly, as our contract was with the main contractor, we had to pay him for work done, even knowing that this would never be passed on to the subbies. | jeffian
19/3/2024 12:33 | This sad story shows the risk Main Contractors run in outsourcing work to subbies who hit the buffers. | stutes
19/3/2024 10:47 | davesailing, how come you've only posted 98 posts in 21 years? Regarding fund buying, the action happened on Friday. Volume was huge. More than ten times the daily average here. People speculating on the FTSE250 rise got out, funds bought in. | stdyeddy
18/3/2024 12:36 | 2 large buys late on Friday of just over 2.1M shares and then another of just over 1.7M shares. Were the buyers FTSE 250 tracker funds or someone else? | davesailing

15/3/2024 13:44 | Post stabilisation notice RNS , for the £250mn at 9%, some of which has already been used to lessen month end debt , increased overall debt pile at higher rate , just for an accountancy figure to make month end debt look less , | bathboy2
14/3/2024 12:06 | I keep seeing this broker upgrade without much detail: 'Kier Group plc 47.3% potential upside indicated by Berenberg Bank' If anyone has the actual 'guidance' or whatever it is, I'd like to see it. Apparently Berenberg has upped its target for Kier to £2.10. On Monday Kier officially enters the FTSE250. Let's see what that does for the share price | stdyeddy
08/3/2024 19:56 | just seen this announcement for the A66. kier is already one of the three partners on this £1.3bn project with a planned opening for 2029. a major deal and kier's share (maybe £400m, maybe more?) is perhaps worth about 10% of its annual turnover. great piece of work. The Government finally has granted development consent for the £1.3bn A66 Northern Trans-Pennine dualling. | itisonlymoney
08/3/2024 18:51 | good end to the week. could continue next week and into the ftse250 reshuffle on the 18th. feeling optimistic. | itisonlymoney

08/3/2024 08:37 | if you want to know where kier's future contracts are coming from, take a look at slide 35 of the results presentation from yesterday. UK Government Spending Commitments UK National Infrastructure Strategy – commitment to spend £770bn over next 10 years | itisonlymoney
08/3/2024 08:30 | kier came in 4th in February on the contract winning table run by construction enquirer and is 2nd overall biggest contract value winner for the rolling 12 months. it's the size and consistent contract winning performance that makes this company a strong performer. avg contract size is only £20m. hundreds of contracts means low risk exposure overall. | itisonlymoney
08/3/2024 08:20 | is it even worth answering your bilge bathboy? you've been doom-mongering here since it was 50p. pretty amazing record you have for being wrong, like 100%. funny how you never want to admit it. avg monthly debt is very small now, nothing like the number you're claiming. So winning contracts is bad, according to you? Maybe you should look at kier's profit and cash generation. turnover is still growing and the order book will soon be £11bn. business has good net cash at the H1 end, and will have a lot more at yr end because cash flows reverse in kier's second half and flow in from contract revenue rather than out for project delivery. | itisonlymoney
08/3/2024 03:57 | Interesting in building magazine, that GT stating that they are another firm with month end cash pile and won't chase turnover , this is in total contrast to what is Kier's situation, taken on extra long term debt, now approx 511mn , to pay down month end debt , and is chasing turnover, while the margins are dropping , it is a good turnaround, but I'm not sure it can be sustained, lots of contracts, still being put on hold . | bathboy2 |
