22/9/2010 07:50 | Nickel mining firm adopts a mountain in Palawan September 21, 2010 12:10 pm Extract ' Berong Nickel Corporation (BNC), a nickel mining conglomerate in southern Palawan engaged in the exploration, development, and mining of nickel laterite deposits, has adopted a mountain in the town of Quezon for a tree planting project as part of its commitment to the environment. Incorporated in 2004 as a subsidiary of Toledo Mining Corporation (TMC), the BNC, said community relations superintendent Jocelyn Tabuada-Asignacion adopted a mountain in Barangay Berong to be the beneficiary of a tree planting project they recently started with the support of the local government officials of Quezon municipality, barangay officials of Berong, representatives from the academe, civic organizations, and residents living within and outside its awarded mining areas. Last September 10, the BNC led more than 3,000 participants in the mass planting of trees in a three-hectare piece of land on a mountain in Barangay Berong, just like how it's done by Puerto Princesa during the Pista Y Ang Kageban. Asignacion narrated that the community event not only succeeded in the implementation of the BNC tree planting project but also in bringing various sectors together to make a pledge to the environment by reviving mountain areas that have been denuded by rampant illegal logging and slash-and-burn farming in the past years. "What's good about the project is that it has encouraged people in Berong and the municipality of Quezon to join together in making a pledge to revive mountain areas in their community that are denuded," she stated. Another encouraging result of the activity is a desire by Berong Barangay and Quezon LGU officials to pass an ordinance that would declare September 10 of every year as "Adopt-A-Mountain Day." "The BNC is happy that with the adopt-a-mountain project, it has inspired people and local government officials to act together to come up with a measure that would greatly contribute to the sustainable protection of their environment," Asignacion added. Within the year, the BNC hopes to plant an additional seven-hectare area with trees by organizing a monthly community tree planting event. Asignacion said the BNC's goal is to plant 10-hectares of mountain land in Berong with trees that would be turned over to the local community later on condition that residents will not cut them down. "The adopt-a-mountain project is a manifestation of the BNC's sincerity to comply with the requirements of the government. More importantly, of course, is the fact that the environment is important to us," she said. (PNA) ' | giant steps

14/9/2010 12:20 | Great news for Toledo (neighbouring project ...) 13th September 2010 Extract "Lucio Tan-led MacroAsia Corp. on Monday got a key government permit that brought the firm a step closer to reviving a nickel mine in Southern Palawan. " 13th September 2010 Extract " MacroAsia has secured a major permit to bring back the mine to operation at the earliest time possible. Currently, it is working on the Declaration of Mining Feasibility for the project, and has ongoing discussions with potential partners for the development of the project to the best interest of the various project stakeholders. " 14th September 2010 Extract " MANILA, Philippines - MacroAsia Corp. has secured an environmental compliance certificate (ECC) for its Infanta nickel mine in Brooke's Point in Palawan, which covers a total land area of about 1,114 hectares. The ECC was issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources after a thorough project review and a series of consultations were conducted principally under the supervision of the Environmental Management Bureau. " Reminder #1 " Discussions continued with MacroAsia on the joint development of the adjoining tenement areas. The nickel laterite deposit extends across the common boundary of the contiguous MPSA areas held by the company and MacroAsia. Ipilan's JORC compliant resource, of 30.6 million tonnes with an average grade of 1.36% nickel, relates to only 30% of the Ipilan MPSA area and as previously reported, Toledo estimates a total resource of some 77 million tonnes at 1.25% nickel for the total area " Reminder #2 Extract " MacroAsia in September signed a memorandum of understanding with Toledo Mining Corp., a mining company listed in the London Stock Exchange, for the joint development of the Infanta and the Celestial nickel projects, both in Brooke's Point, Palawan. Toledo Mining and affiliates hold the majority interest in the Celestial nickel project. Under the plan, MacroAsia and Toledo will conduct studies that will cover possible collaboration in mine development and on-site value added processing. Primarily engaged in aviation-related services, MacroAsia inherited its mining rights from Cobertson Holdings Corp., formerly Infanta Mineral and Industrial Corp. 29/6/2010 09:01 | Some think that had the goal been allowed the England team would have been in a positive mindset!!....what it proves me thinks is that Capello failed to prepare them so that they are in a mentally fit state of mind going into a Worldcup tournment...so should a decision go against the team like a disallowed goal or etc etc the players should be 10 times more hungry for a win...Germany capitalized on the weakness... | diku
28/6/2010 13:57 | Someone hit the nail on the head earlier - competitive sport is not allowed in the state school system. Someone might have to be a loser! No competitive sport = no football = no youngsters learning to play and love the game as kids. If they want to learn, they have to find another way of doing it. Easier to sit at home with dad and watch it on the TV and become an armchair player. So virtually no new talent feeding through into the club junior sides = even less new talent feeding through into the club senior sides. Couple that with the insane desire of the clubs to pay trillions for overseas players and then pay them millions a year and you have a recipe for disaster for what little homegrown talent there is. No wonder Capello was chasing retired international players - the pool of English players from which he COULD choose was pretty small and - as it happened - simply not good enough, in spite of their over-inflated salaries and top-heavy egos. The only sports at which England do well these days are those played - very competitively - outside the state school system, like cricket and rugby, and to a lesser extent, tennis. | wdurham
28/6/2010 12:22 | forget the qualifiers...when it comes down to the real deal we always fail.We beat Germany 5-1 away in the qualifiers but they ended up in the final of the world cup.I know which stat id rather have. i was amazed to see Capello bring on Heskey instead of crouch....is he having a laugh or something. | sos100
28/6/2010 12:15 | toby i saw am interview with shearer and rooney on the bbc about a week ago, shearer was telling rooney he was going to the world cup as one of the top 2 or 3 players in the world, rooney was smiling and believing it, the hype by the media is only to sell stuff. | father o toole
28/6/2010 12:09 | We were the best qualifiers from all groups, under Capello. We cannot turn into such a bad team overnight, or Capello a bad manager. I believe that they were still coming to terms with the altitude and that enough thought wasn't given to this factor before the tournament. Roll on Euro 2012 and we will show the Germans then. | tobythedogk |
