It's the first time I have ever seen the phrase "rebasing the dividend" used in an upward direction! It's usually a mealy-mouthed way of telling shareholders they're getting a dividend cut. Well done, Keller.

"In recognition of the excellent performance in the year and the Group's future growth prospects, the Board is recommending a rebasing of the dividend with an increase in the total dividend for 2023 of 20%, which would bring the total dividends for the year to 45.2p (2022: 37.7p)."

When the US finally rolls over into recession we are likely to have a global synchronised downturn and it would be no surprise to find all major geographies pressing the big green "let's dig more holes" button. Keller could be a beneficiary, one of the very few as all else tanks.

Excellent move in underlying profit. What's not to like and debt near lower target boundary too.

"In 2023 the Group delivered a record set of financial results, establishing a new foundation for future long term growth and supporting a material rebasing of the dividend with a full year increase of 20%. Whilst political and macro-economic uncertainties will undoubtedly remain and impact our markets in the short term, our current level of trading together with our robust order book mean that we enter the new year with confidence.

The strong momentum of the business is encouraging and whilst inevitably there will be fluctuations across the Group, our diverse revenues and improved operational delivery underpin our expectation that 2024 will be another year of underlying progress.

The significant improvement in business performance and continued disciplined execution of our strategy, will provide both resilience in the short term and drive growth in the long term, through both organic and targeted M&A opportunities. Accordingly, we view the Group's prospects with increased confidence."

At 851p the shares trade at PE6.5 based on consensus forecasts of 131p EPS, £150m Operating profit for 2023 (as can be seen published on Keller’s website).

If we are to take it that these are the figures to be significantly exceeded, then the share price looks set for significant progress too, especially when figures are finally confirmed.

Trading Update brings welcome news.
With such a widespread global footprint, there is always something negative to report somewhere in its diverse economic regions, and it is this that the market always seizes on. The forthcoming record results will however underline its particularly strong position in its main U.S. market.

It is now time for the dividend to reflect the progress made in its financial position, and this should at last bolster the flagging share price.

I think so. Mentioning one offs might put some off but it's all heading to cash along the line and the base business is chugging along nicely with decent divi. EU should be digging more holes to help get out of their doldrums.

Is the upgrade to expectations a reference to the October update? In other words an additional upgrade ?I'm assuming so

Good update and glad to say I own a fair few.
One offs in US help, Australia back on track, EU malaise.
EU issues don't appear go be Keller execution but the wider economic background.

Underlying operating profit significantly above market expectations!

https://masterinvestor.co.uk/equities/small-cap-catch-up-digging-reading-shipping-and-more/Keller Group (LON:KLR) – Feverishly Digging For Record Profits On Monday morning the world's largest geotechnical specialist contractor informed investors that it was on track for a record year, with its operating profit expected to beat market hopes. The group's shares hit 785p in reaction to the good news, up over 111p on the previous close. During the week they have drifted back slightly, upon understandable profit-taking after such a swift uplift in price, closing last night at 743p, but still up 70p on the good news. The group reported that positive trading momentum in the third quarter had been maintained following the Group's exceptionally strong first half performance. Given its trading performance to date and the continued momentum in the business, the company now expects that the full year underlying operating profit will be materially ahead of current market expectations. CEO Michael Speakman stated that: "The Keller team has built on an exceptionally strong first half to deliver a better than expected third-quarter performance, and consequently we now expect full year underlying profit to be materially ahead of current market expectations. This performance reflects continued momentum and operational improvements within the business." The £547m capitalised group provides a wide portfolio of advanced foundation and ground improvement techniques used across the entire construction sector. Operating on five continents globally, its 10,000 staff tackle an unrivalled 6,000 projects every year, helping to generate an annual revenue of some £3bn. Estimates for the full year to end December suggest that the group could more than double its earnings before tax from £56.3m to £118.0m, doubling its earnings to 124p (62p) per share. Last night the shares closed at 743p, that is some way below the 998p that they reached in August 2021. However, I consider that they will be up there again, so the shares are a Hold.

Liberum describes Keller valuation as 'cheap'Specialist geotechnical engineer Keller (KLR) is trading on a 'cheap' valuation given strong quarterly performance, says Liberum.Analyst Joe Brent retained his 'buy' recommendation and increased his target price from £13.40 to £14.00 Citywire Elite Companies A-rated stock, which was trading at £7.70 on Monday. It issued a strong trading update where 'management points to continued momentum and a positive third quarter', said Brent. This led him to increase full-year 2023 and 2024 earnings per share by 16% and 10%, respectively, to 'reflect the strong performance'.'We maintain our 'buy' recommendation but increase our target price... to reflect strong performance: a revised current year 2024 price/earnings of 4.9x is cheap,' he said.

Pleasing to read, always some ups and downs but overall........

"Overall, positive trading momentum in the third quarter has been maintained following the Group's exceptionally strong first half performance. Given our trading performance to date and the continued momentum in the business, we now expect full year underlying operating profit to be materially ahead of current market expectations."

Just to emphasise:

Commenting, Michael Speakman, CEO of Keller Group plc, said:

"The Keller team has built on an exceptionally strong first half to deliver a better than expected third-quarter performance, and consequently we now expect full year underlying profit to be materially ahead of current market expectations. This performance reflects continued momentum and operational improvements within the business and the outstanding contribution of colleagues across the Group, whom I would like to thank for their dedication and hard work".

The $ rallied yesterday. If the downgrade was a big problem that wouldn't have happened, money is not leaving USA at the mo. Money moves in advance outside of really bad unexpected scenarios when no one has a chance to react before.
