Picking the bottom of this stock hasnt been a successful strategy but zeminski rough diamond index down circa 3% over six months and seems to level out a bit. no sign of heading upward though - in a trough?

If you've listened to the webcast and read Panmure's note the rolling credit facility barely get mentioned. Don't get the sense this is a great concern tbh.

The link to wherever Panmure's comment was posted is not usable. Can you please post using tinyurl?

Separately, the inherent option in this stock is ridiculous. Just one large diamond is a multiple of the current market cap. But as others have said, the debt needs to be rolled over to take the risk out.

@wigwammer. You are indeed correct in the present market and consequently have edited.

An absence of >200 carat gems combined with generally weak prices has certainly hit profitability. However, in time these should both turn. Also, GEMD's revenue is predominantly driven by selling large diamonds that are not produced synthetically (unlike Petra and De Beers).

The main short term issue is indeed the need to renew the debt facility before the end of the current year. I think I will wait for a bit more clarity on this.

Hi Caiman. Don't think it's a cash cow, at least not at current diamond prices. Just about broke even at a cash level in 2023 ex-ing out inventory build, but diamond prices averaged around 20% higher last year than now. Not sure I quite understand the extreme pessimism either - we don't know where diamond prices are heading - they might even go up! Nor do we don't know the exact nature of levers that can be pulled to reduce costs/capex in current environment. We DO know the valuation is absolutely on its knees. High risk/high reward. Would be good to see some management purchases.

Confirms what I thought to quote management. "A key focus for 2024 will be the extension or renewal the Group's facilities which expire on 22 December 2024".

I think it's enough of a clue, where this is going...and a further clue, it is not up, it's down both in price, and how they need to remodel their approach to sustain viable diamond extraction irrespective of macro piece, it's a helpful excuse at this stage for management to hide behind.

...so..with who's money and at what price, I don't see any return for existing shareholders, just a lot of pain, if your lucky it will hold to similar levels long enough for some to exit, as they will, and will not be surprised to see this much lower before end of day, not invest able at any price... IMO

No real surprises. Holding these for 12 month with the view that the economy will hopefully begin to stabilise and hopefully we'll see a reversal in diamond prices driven by a shortage of rough coming via Russia and an increased uptake by China. Let's see what happens. If the stars align then these will look ridiculously cheap at the prices. I've bought all I'm going to though (I think), approx £40,000. Gulp!

There we have it. Underground not viable at current diamond prices. Also, updated reserve shows open pit mining at Letseng will continue for another 14 years, ending in 2037.

It's the diamond price crash which is primarily causing the issue today I think.
Its not unusual in mining and commodity to reduce supply and investment till shortages make the price recover.
Whether that will happen I don't know. It's same for all in the game unless they can reduce costs which is unlikely given geologies.

It might be there's a market change to prefer lab diamonds on the one hand and increase supply of natural diamonds (blood/Russian) but I'm only guessing.
Nice to see me proved wrong and they've pulled out a few large ones!

Oh dear, just not a viable model in there without radical surgery, if your lucky, price stays same, and no return, what's the point in investing when there is just risk and at best get money back, what happened to captain Kirk with his 40p prediction did he make it back ?

Still see this company as seriously undervalued. The next few months should be interesting.

Petra update

"Like-for-like rough diamond prices improved by 4.0% on Tender 3 FY 2024, with higher prices achieved across all size categories, barring the 5 to 10.8ct size range where prices were largely flat compared to the previous tender. Average like-for-like prices were down 9.2% year-to-date compared to the equivalent four tenders of FY 2023."
