2013 – The Great Irish Share Valuation Project (Part VIII)

I take a look at Aer Lingus Group, plus a batch of other Irish stocks:

Well... The fact is he may be forced to relinquish his 29% if the UK competition authority rule against him in the current investigation.
And Etihad are not allowed to take too large a stake under EU law (don't know the threshhold off the top of my head). So it is a possibility that Ryanair will reduce / abandon their shares. The holding is no good to him if he cannot gain control of the company. As for my opinion of Mr O'Leary...well, most people agree that this quest to take over Aer Lingus is his achilles heel. With the Irish government not prepared to sell their holding to him, it is a complete non starter, and I think that many Ryanair shareholders are pretty hacked off with this distraction, when he should be concentrating on running his own business.

Wonder what will happen to the share price if Ryanair give up on this and start selling down their 29% holding?

Etihad are the main part of the game?

I wonder why O'Leary did not use Aer Arran instead of Flybe, in his "plan" for overcoming the Competition issues? At least (the restructured) Aer Arran would have had some credibility and recognition? I am sure this saga has further to run..........

Looks more like Game off. Very good news that AERL is not about to be asset stripped by O'Leary just to satisfy his own ego. And gives customers the choice to travel with a civilised airline.

Results tomorrow! I doubt that a small trade at 130 will "scupper" the Ryan Air bid. But it shows these shares have more to go, imho...........
Quite surprising the lack of interest, on these threads, given the current action.

I think 1.16 was a 3 year closing high, looking good imho.

Never had any "on time" issues with AL. At least AL don't trumpet an awful tune when a flight lands on time.

Absolutely agree craffert. Going by recent statements in the paper by ryanair ceo oleary, it looks like if he cant have al he is hell bent on destroying it. What a nice businessman he is.

ryanair would ruin the decency of aer lingus. nice staff, nice customer relations, comfortable seats, good on board food, and still with pretty competitive pricing. I always fly aer lingus where the choice is them versus budget. Often AL is just as cheap as Ryanair, by the time you have paid all the disgusting extras that Ryanair charge for

Could be some interesting developments here in the next fee weeks, with Etihad interested in buying Ryanairs 30 % stake. Question is: what effect would this have on the sp? These sharrs ate cheap now with the exchange tate where it is
