Genuine developments are happening at MyShareAlert.com - the messages sometimes come as emails (reason not clear yet).
Also longer messages. And more detailed info on the activity page.

Any comments about the changes ?
I find it needs more tedious button pushing (crucial price is now gone off bottom). This probably depends on the phone you have, size of screen etc.

Comments very welcome, it's all part of the testing process.

@ work. I have my mobile on pager and thus vibrates when an sms comes through. I have also personalised "pager" such that it doesn't beep but it may be set up as default.must go. Worked fine all week i thought but perhaps not today.

In general I am getting the ADFVN alerts before the mysharealert ones although it is difficult to compare because mysharealert rounds the price off so both systems are providing alerts at slightly different times.

The main problem I have is hearing the blasted beep from my mobile unless I am right next to it. My Trium mars mobile does not seem to have an volume adjuster for the SMS messages only the main phone, and alarm clock.

Going to the New Forest tomorrow so big test, might try WAP if i can fiure out how it works (see other thread!)

Absolutely superb, been using it (mysharealert) for a few days thanks to it being mentioned above. It works anywhere in Europe too. NOthing quite like sitting in a cafe in Italy while you go bleep and Biotrace has gone up 10p. I then use the BT cellnet share 222 text message service to get a latest price update. Who needs WAP - not me, stick to simple cheap SMS messages. Thanks for pointing this one out.

You've got me wrong. I guess Lycos have a deal with the FTSE or whoever provides the share prices. MSA has a deal with lycos to provide the share prices for share alerts. Lycos may provide others. I am guessing here but i suspect msa are ona tight budget and the deal with Lycos depended on no. of customers and those wanting live prices. Lycos have pulled the plug but the clever bit is this chain doesn't break up but a telco or even a financial website can buy msa or do a deal with msa. I know genies share alerts are terrible.

Today was AMAZING... I was doing jobs around the house and garden. The Alerts came all day long, telling me about rising techs ; then at 4 pm I sold Atlantic Telecom (over the phone) which has risen 15 % since I bought it YESTERDAY !! Didn't need the PC at all. It's nice to have a totally different day, no PC, and make a profit TOO !!

Reminder to ADVFN, as to what is a REALLY USEFUL alert -

BEEP-BEEP "BOOKHAM has risen to 320p from 312p. "

That's what you get from MyShareAlert.com , its good.

BJ

I thought you meant share price alerts by landline, these might be more reliable than SMS, not as good as mobile but at least one doesn't have to sit in front of the computer all day.

If you then had unanswered or engaged landline calls diverted to mobile, if so this could be the best system, if one exists.

BJ you said

"Then you can get specific real-time prices over the phone"

You mean you ask for a share price and it tells you? or one can get real time prices via a landline phone call? not sure what you mean.

Note - Almost any mobile phone will do, so long as it receives text messages. Point is, that you dont need to keep phoning for share prices, because THEY will come to YOU !!
Posted at 23/4/2001 21:09 by bj444
These SMS alerts give you the LATEST PRICE when a share moves 2% (or whatever you choose).

Example:

BEEP-BEEP "PSION has risen to 98.25p from 97.00p. Sent 12-Apr-2001 11:48:34 "
